Goemon (2009)
(DramaWiki) – “Goemon” is based on the life of Ishikawa Goemon a legendary 16th century ninja warrior and bandit who stole valuables and gave them to the poor. There is little historical information on Goemon’s life, and thus he has become a folk hero, whose background and origins have been widely speculated upon.
Now, more than a month ago I bought some movies off of YesAsia.com when they were having this sale. Some were out of stock, so I only got them in the mail a few days ago.
After I put the order through I realized that Goemon had no English subtitles, and unfortunately, I could not cancel it.
So I watched this film entirely without subtitles. The general plot was easy to follow, though I was lost of some specifics. I understood a few words here and there, but mostly I had no idea what they were saying. I looked around the internet and found out more details of it, including the fact that it’s very loosely based off a true story. Who knew?
It was quite an action packed revenge film which relied a lot on special effects. It was pretty, full of lots of pretty people, and was quite entertaining. If you can find it somewhere with subtitles, I’d rec it. Or if you know Japanese. That would be helpful. My basic knowledge of Japanese wasn’t quite enough to understand what they were saying. Maybe I’ll rewatch it one day when I actually know Japanese *crosses fingers*
