Ninja Assassin (2009)

We had family movie night and watched a movie I recently purchased… NINJA ASSASSIN!!!!

I bought it at BestBuy last week and my god – why do Hollywood movies cost so much??? That’s the most I’ve spent on a movie in a long time! But alas, I had to have it…

(IMDB) – When several people are killed in a peculiar manner, a Europol agent suspects that it could be the work of Ninja assassins. Her superiors warn her that she’s entering dangerous territory. But she investigates nonetheless and it leads her to another dead agent who was also investigating the same thing. When she is marked for death, she is saved by another Ninja, whom she learns has gone renegade.

I had wanted to see this in theaters, but unfortunately never got a chance.

I had three reasons as to why I wanted to see this movie:

1. Ninja
2. Assassin
3. RAIN

Now, having seen it – it’s not one you can call a good movie. But it is an entertaining movie. Quite entertaining.

Not much for plot, not much for actual acting, senseless violence with excessive almost-Japanese-shock-film-but-not-quite gore, and several shots of Rain shirtless, sweating, and KICKING ASS.

Throughout the film I made several hilarious (read: VERY CORNY) jokes about ‘Rain-ing justice’ and such. I waited, waited, and waited and a K-Pop reference finally showed up!

Okay, they didn’t mention K-Pop directly, but… “He’s a deadly assassin? He looks more like he could be in a boy band.” OH SNAP.

So on a mindless entertainment level? IT WAS AWESOME.

Rating: 4/5

Seriously, how can I not make jokes about ‘Rain-ing justice’ and that? C’mon… HE BRINGS IT ON HIMSELF.
