What’s Your Rashee? (2009)

(IMDB) – A young man has only ten days to locate his soulmate as dictated by the stars, otherwise he could lose a fortune. He thus embarks on a journey through love, looking through twelve girls to find the one who fits his horoscope.
Ah, I must start off by pointing out the hilarity of the opening statement.

It makes me think of a while ago when I watching this other movie. I can’t remember what the movie was, but I remember it had this big thing at the beginning all, ‘SMOKING IS HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH!!!!!!’ Or sometimes the film will be outrageously unbelievable but still there will be the ‘This is a work of fiction blah blah blah etc etc’ notices. They amuse me.
Anyways, this movie made the record books by having Priyanka Chopra playing twelve different characters.
With the plot – once you get past the fact that Yogesh was tricked into coming home to India (“Your father has had a heart attack, come quick!”), and pressured into finding a bride in less than ten days so they could get money to settle Yogesh’s brother’s debts to the tune of 4 crores… It was really quite sweet. It actually made me think of the Tollywood film Chukkallo Chandrudu, except with twelve girls all played by Priyanka Chopra instead of three separate girls. The interaction between Yogesh and the twelve ‘signs’ was the best thing going for this movie. Everything else was pretty… uninteresting.
Priyanka Chopra was really great in this. All the different characters – she played them all really well. Though I don’t fully agree with the Libran girl being all crazy analytical. I’m a Libra and I’m not crazy analytical… am I? I don’t think I am… Yeah, they’re all extreme stereotypes of the different personalities that different signs have. I’m not into astrology or anything, but I still enjoyed the characterizations. I’ll say again that I thought Priyanka Chopra did a wonderful job playing twelve radically different characters.
I was cheering for a specific girl for the entire film, and sadly Yogesh didn’t pick her. It was kind of obvious after a while which one he was going to marry, but… I was holding out hope!
And speaking of Yogesh… Harman Baweja wasn’t actually terrible in this. Has his acting improved since Love Story 2050???
I don’t have anything else to say, so I’ll just post some fun numbers that were going on. I was in stitches from the one with the Libran girl…
Rating: 4/5
